Education Foundation Awards Nearly $25,000 in Teacher Mini-Grants for 2026-2027

The Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation is pleased to announce the award of $24,960.53 in Teacher Mini-Grants for the 2026-2027 school year, providing funding for innovative classroom projects and educational experiences that will benefit students across Halifax County Public Schools.

The Teacher Mini-Grant Program, established in 2008, continues to be one of the Foundation's most impactful initiatives. Since its inception, the program has funded more than 1,000 teacher-generated projects, helping educators bring creative ideas to life while enhancing educational opportunities for students throughout the division.

For the 2026-2027 school year, teachers submitted 107 mini-grant applications requesting support for classroom activities, instructional resources, enrichment opportunities, guest speakers, field trip experiences, and other innovative projects not funded through traditional school budgets. Following a thorough review process, 88 grants were selected for funding, representing nine Halifax County Public Schools and benefiting students from Pre-K through 12th grade.

The Foundation's Mini-Grant Selection Committee, chaired by Richard Harrell and joined by committee members Ronnie Pannell and Beth Layne, carefully evaluated each proposal based on its educational value, creativity, and potential impact on student learning.

This year's funding represents a significant increase from the $19,458.25 awarded during the 2025-2026 school year, reflecting the Foundation's ongoing commitment to investing directly in classrooms and supporting the innovative work of local educators.

"The Teacher Mini-Grant Program empowers teachers to create engaging learning opportunities that might not otherwise be possible," said Meagan Owen, Executive Director of the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. "Our teachers consistently demonstrate incredible creativity and dedication to their students. We are grateful to the donors, businesses, and community partners whose generosity makes these grants possible and helps turn great ideas into meaningful educational experiences."

From hands-on learning activities to unique enrichment opportunities, the projects funded through the Teacher Mini-Grant Program help spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and deepen student engagement. The Foundation looks forward to seeing the impact these grants will have in classrooms throughout the 2026-2027 school year.

The Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the individuals, businesses, and community partners whose support makes this program possible. Their investment in education continues to create opportunities that inspire students, support educators, and strengthen the future of Halifax County.

Together, we are helping students learn, grow, and succeed, one innovative classroom project at a time.
